Communications Associate

We are seeking a Communications Associate to join our team on a part-time basis (10-20 hours in a week). The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, team player, skilled writer, and has public relations experience. They thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and they are ready and excited to learn about new technologies and products.
Core duties
- Content Creation: Create high-quality content for press releases, blogs, opinion articles, case studies, white papers, and social media.
- Communications Support: Assist with building media lists and pitching expert sources, story ideas, and session abstracts to various media outlets to secure coverage and/or speaking opportunities. Follow industry media outlets, newsletters, and events to stay informed on current trends and opportunities.
- Social Media Management: Draft, publish, and manage organic social media content and track engagement.
- Client Support: Engage regularly with clients to understand their communications needs. Participate in virtual meetings with clients and internal teams to discuss strategy, deliverables, deadlines, and other project-related activities.
- Reporting: Compile and analyze key data related to communications (website traffic, social media metrics, earned media mentions, trends, future opportunities).
- Professionalism: Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, internal teams, reporters, vendors, and partners.
- Work Environment: Maintain a clean, safe home office work environment.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.
- 2+ years of work experience, with some direct experience in clean energy, climate tech, or sustainability.
- Exceptional writing and research skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of various types of content.
- A passion for (or strong interest in) sustainability and clean energy.
- Professional attitude and ability to uphold high standards in communication and brand representation.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience pitching to or working with media outlets.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Asana, Google Analytics, and HubSpot.
- Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices and experience using SEO tools, such as Semrush.
- Familiarity with media outreach and tracking tools, such as Cision, AgilityPR or Meltwater.
- Experience in social media platforms and social media management tools, such as Sprout Social.
- Ability to track and analyze website and social media metrics using Google Analytics and other tools.
Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $30/hour and is commensurate with experience.
